A financial ecosystem made for racing.

Racing is a specialist, international industry. Its financial services should reflect that. Furlong is developing a dedicated financial platform bringing together accounts, payments and foreign exchange for racehorse owners, syndicates, trainers, breeders and bloodstock professionals.

Racing is different. We understand why.

Behind every racehorse is a network of people and businesses, connected by a constant flow of financial transactions. Owners fund their horses, trainers manage expenditure, breeders and bloodstock agents operate across international markets, and syndicates bring together multiple participants.

These relationships create financial requirements that are often poorly served by generalist providers. Furlong is being built specifically around the way racing works.

Why focus matters

The thoroughbred industry has its own financial rhythms, relationships and requirements. From racing administration and prize money to syndicate ownership and international bloodstock transactions, the movement of money is closely connected to the way the sport operates.

By focusing exclusively on this industry, Furlong can develop services around these requirements rather than expecting racing participants to adapt to generic financial products.

Our ambition is not simply to provide another account. It is to build a financial platform that becomes an integral part of the industry's infrastructure.

Created from within the industry.

Furlong was founded by Henry Taylor, former Head of Weatherbys Racing Bank, bringing more than 20 years of financial services experience and an extensive understanding of the thoroughbred industry. Having worked closely with owners, trainers, breeders, bloodstock agents and racing organisations, he recognised the opportunity to build a modern financial platform designed around their needs.

One industry. Different needs. A shared understanding.

The thoroughbred industry brings together individuals and businesses with distinct financial requirements, but whose activities are closely connected. Furlong is developing services to support those relationships and simplify the movement of money throughout the sport.

Racehorse owners

Ownership should be about the enjoyment and excitement of racing, not unnecessary financial administration. Furlong aims to simplify racing expenditure, payments to trainers and other providers, and the receipt of racing-related income.

Syndicates and partnerships

Shared ownership brings more people into the sport. Furlong is exploring ways to simplify member contributions, shared expenditure and financial administration for syndicate managers and their members.

Trainers

Training businesses handle complex financial relationships with owners, suppliers, staff and racing organisations. We aim to provide efficient payment and account services that connect more closely to existing administration and accounting systems.

Breeders and stud farms

Breeding is an international business involving nomination fees, sales proceeds and boarding costs. Furlong is developing payment and foreign exchange capabilities to support these activities.

Bloodstock professionals

Bloodstock transactions are international, time-sensitive and often substantial. Furlong aims to make cross-border payments and foreign exchange more straightforward for agents and their clients.

Shared ownership, made simpler

Syndicates bring more people into racing, but the administration behind them can be demanding: collecting contributions from several owners, paying shared costs and distributing returns. Furlong is exploring a better way to handle it.

Collecting contributions

Members pay in once, with a clear record of who has contributed.

Paying shared costs

Training fees and other shared expenses paid from one place.

Clear distributions

Prize money and sale proceeds shared out accurately between members.

These services are under development and are not yet available.

Modern financial services. Built around racing.

Furlong is developing a range of services intended to make everyday transactions simpler while supporting the industry's international and increasingly digital requirements. All services are under development.

Accounts for racing life

A dedicated account for the money that moves around racing, from training fees and vet bills to prize money, to keep racing finances in one place.

Payments designed around racing

From paying training fees and racing expenses to receiving prize money and settling international bloodstock transactions, Furlong aims to simplify the payments that keep the industry moving.

Foreign exchange for international racing

For buying at overseas sales, paying foreign stud and boarding fees, or receiving international prize money, we aim to make currency conversion simpler and clearer.

Syndicates and shared ownership

We are exploring simpler ways to handle member contributions, shared expenditure and distributions, so syndicate managers spend less time on administration.

Connected services

Longer term, we hope to connect Furlong with the systems and organisations that support racing, so that fewer payments have to be handled by hand.

Designed to complement your existing arrangements.

Our focus is the day-to-day financial activity associated with racing: receiving funds, making payments, managing currencies and facilitating transactions between industry participants. Clients may continue to use their existing banks and wealth managers for lending, investment and other needs, with Furlong providing the specialist transactional services that sit alongside them.

A new approach, built on experience.

Furlong was established with a clear ambition: to build the financial platform on which the thoroughbred industry operates. We believe the best financial services are developed by people who understand the customers they serve, the markets in which they operate and the relationships that connect them.

Our story

Furlong was founded by Henry Taylor, former Head of Weatherbys Racing Bank, who has spent more than two decades in financial services. That experience gave him a detailed understanding of the financial needs of racing participants, the complexities of the industry's payment arrangements and the opportunities for modern technology to improve them.

The thoroughbred industry is relatively small, highly interconnected and built on long-standing relationships. Trust, reputation and specialist knowledge are essential. Furlong combines those qualities with modern financial infrastructure.

Shaped by the industry

The most effective platform for racing must be developed in close collaboration with the people and organisations it serves. Furlong is engaging with owners, trainers, breeders, bloodstock agents, industry organisations and technology partners to help shape its services. Furlong's strategy is being developed in close collaboration with experienced industry participants, so that its services stay relevant to what racing actually needs. Our proposed Advisory Council will bring those figures together to provide insight, challenge and strategic guidance, and we will introduce its members here once confirmed.

Our principles

Specialist by design

One industry, understood and served exceptionally well.

Relationships matter

Racing is built on trust and personal relationships. Financial services should reflect that.

Responsibility at our core

Security, good governance and regulatory compliance are fundamental to how Furlong is being developed.

Innovation with purpose

Technology should make life easier for clients, not add complexity.

Developing financial services responsibly.

Protecting customer funds and maintaining high standards of regulation are central to Furlong's development. Furlong intends to seek authorisation from the Financial Conduct Authority as an Electronic Money Institution (EMI).

How safeguarding works

Authorised EMIs must protect relevant customer funds through safeguarding arrangements, which keep those funds separate from the firm's own money and provide protection if the firm fails. Furlong's intended approach is:

Segregated

Client money held in segregated safeguarding accounts, not mixed with Furlong's own corporate funds.

Never lent or invested

Client funds are not used for lending or investment.

Fully backed

Client balances backed at all times by matching deposits in each currency.

The precise arrangements will depend on the regulatory framework and the safeguarding arrangements Furlong establishes before launch.

Is my money covered by the FSCS?

Money held as electronic money is not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in the same way as eligible deposits held with a UK-authorised bank. Safeguarding is a different form of protection and does not provide an equivalent guarantee of repayment.

Our regulatory status. Furlong is developing its proposed services and intends to apply for the necessary authorisation. Furlong is not currently authorised as an Electronic Money Institution and is not accepting customer funds. Any future services will be subject to the relevant regulatory permissions.
